Sharon Servilio, Discussion, 2008, gouache on paper, 22" x 26"
Sharon Servilio was born in New Jersey, attended Brandeis University for her BA, and recently received her MFA from American University in Washington, DC. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn. She has shown work at several DC venues, including Warehouse Gallery, Katzen Arts Center, and Heineman Meyers Contemporary Art. She is a recipient of the Mellon Grant, and her work has been collected by the American University Museum.
Sharon’s work investigates the following questions: On a personal level, how do humans relate to each other, to inanimate objects, and to our environment in the midst of the colors, patterns, sounds, technology, scientific concepts, beliefs, and pop culture of the contemporary world? Furthermore, how can this be expressed through a still visual medium? Meanwhile, she exploits the sumptuous materiality of paint in the hopes of creating a tactile, sensory experience for viewers.
