Reed + Rader is the New York based creative collective of artists Pamela Reed and Matthew Rader.

Born in 1983 in Pennsylvania and Ohio, Pamela and Matthew first met at while studying at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.   From the Art Institute they moved to New York on a Silas H. Rhodes Scholarship to finish their BFA at the School of Visual Arts.

Reed + Rader has been published internationally and has participated in Surface’s Avant Guardian Project, the “Mentors” exhibition at the Visual Arts Gallery in Manhattan, and been part of American Photo’s “Images of the Year”.

Reed + Rader’s work draws inspiration from technology, gaming, and anthropomorphism.  They work in mixed media with photography, illustration, and design.  With collage, their work illustrates the realities of the multitasking world and depicts likely near-future scenarios where technology and the arts have converged.  In “Pyramid Hill” the concept of the avatar as an eventual replacement for our own humanities is explored along with ideas of augmented reality birthed from a Vingian Singularity and the effect it will have on the MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role-playing game) gaming community.  Their portraits are straightforward and unrestrained; they too are fantasy but not irrational.  “Rapture” is a series from a project of formal portraits exploring the relationship between characters from video games after having been removed from their environmental context.
