Megan Hays is an installation artist and a studio resident of Lumenhouse in Brooklyn, NY. A native of Baltimore, MD, she has been a resident of New York City for 11 years, where she attended Pratt Institute and Hunter College.

Megan’s work uses both found and constructed objects: remnants of rituals, symbols of fleeting intimate moments, and it refers to the edification of sacred space by the sanctifying process inherent in history. The individual elements of an installation are aestheticized through formal arrangements to heighten the sense of intimacy. This process creates a perceived impenetrability, distilling the occupied space into its own hallowed ground.

Megan’s influences include Yayoi Kusama, Rachel Whiteread, Louise Bourgeois, Tara Donavan and Aurora Robson. She is similarly indebted to her study of  history, anthropology, films, and philosophy, particularly Maurice Merleau-Ponty.
